Composing this CD allowed me to do several things. First, it allowed me to fullfil yet another one of my fantasy/desires, taking the life long dream of mixing records (since '81....189th St/Ev-ski's basement) to a whole other level. That was big and it ain't easy. It sounds easy but mixing/beatmatching is far from easy. Finally having the time to dedicate to perfecting my style of dj'ing that has been with me since my 189th St. crew days was the best part. During the process I realized I do have a decent ear and my mixes are unique or at least Dj Cool CH thinks so and he's a vet. Secondly, this project transformed me into somewhat of an artist, showcasing a talent. The actual composition of the tracks or re-mixes weren't random. I did come up with them randomly when I was thinking through my records but once I did finally decide on the mixes they began to have deeper meaning. Like can you guess who my favorite artist is based on my mix? Well I had an opportunity to let myself know who and why. The lyrics yes the lyrics and the delivery were major factors in determining who was my #1 artist to mix. I think that I will always respect those who have heart and stay on the grind keeping the artform pure. I feel like I conveyed that sentiment with my mix. In my mind mainstream is still synonymous with corney just like back in the day so I find myself staying clear of mainstream artists. It's not a conscious move just the way it turns out when I'm being true to myself and my perception of Hip Hop. Resist Hop is the truest the purest the illest..my next joint is coming soon.
