The Science of Persuasion

The basic principles that govern getting to "yes" are based on six tendencies of human behavior. In order to generate a positive response, empowerment equals knowledge of the rules of persuasion. Reciprocation: payment in kind, give away a mix EP of similar music prior to asking them to cop yours. Reciprocal concessions, ask a large request followed by a smaller request, the result, aggreement of the lesser request: would you buy ten of my independently produced CD's? Well if you can't do that would you buy one and put some of your closest friends on? Consistency: public committment directs future action, prior to asking them to buy the CD ask if they will sign a petition to support the independent artist. Social Validation: people look to what others are doing or have done. The more others that have decided in favor of a particular idea, the more that will follow. Convince them it's the largest selling independent album purchased by underground hip hop heads. Liking: Affinity, rapport, affection. A connection between people, something in common. Scarcity: Items and opportunities are more valuable as they become less available, limited editions and limited supply. At live performances circulate a petition to support independent artists and announce that a limited number of specially remixed CD's are available at the door. Following these principles should enhance the success and increase the value placed upon the work of the independent hip hop artist.
